Royal Terengganu Golf Club
The Royal Terengganu Golf course is a fine par-36, nine-hole (3,075 m) challenge with narrow fairway hazards and notorious winds. Established in 1939, it was once known as the Badariah Golf course, initiated by the late Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Sulaiman. The club was given royal patronage in 1979 and was subsequently renamed the Royal Terengganu Golf Club.
The golf course has undergone many changes since the time it was built and play can be very frustrating or rewarding depending on wind conditions. Golfers may sometimes need anything from a short iron to a wood on its short par-4. The greens are turfed with Serangoon grass, while the fairways are of common cow grass.
Visitors who wish to play here need not pay any green fees but prior permission must first be obtained.
The club is situated within the hallowed grounds of the state palace, about 5 km from Kuala Terengganu. The Royal Terengganu golf course presents a good view of the open South China Sea. A serene and a cosy atmosphere pervades the club, where everyone knows one another on a first name basis.
