Templer’s Park Golf Club (TPGC)

One of the golf courses being built in the Selangor region is the Templer’s Park Golf Club 18-hole layout, spread over 1,915 acres of swamp land. It was designed by Japan’s leading professional Masashi Jumbo’ Ozaki.

Situated at the Templer’s Park recreational centre, about 24 km along the North-South Highway near Bukit Takun, the Templer Park Golf Club allows night-time golfing, the first of its kind in Malaysia.

The course will also feature lots of water hazards, craters and bunkers, making play very challenging.

Darul Ehsan Golf Club

The Darul Ehsan golf course is one of the elite clubs in Malaysia. It was designed by golf course architect Ronald Fream of the Design Group of California. For a nine-hole course, The Darul Ehsan golf course presents a daring challenge even to the stout-hearted. Mounds and swales abound, and the water hazards pose real problems.

Darul Ehsan Golf Club is situated at Taman Tun Razak, in the township of Ampang Jaya in Selangor, Malaysia, the club was actually started by a subsidiary of the Selangor State Government, which saw the opportunity to build an exclusive golf course around a housing area, offering a package deal to house buyers.

In fact, exclusivity is the key to the club’s philosophy. Darul Ehsan Golf Club consists of an olympic-size swimming pool fronting the club-house, a games room, a pro-shop, a badminton hall and three popular indoor tennis courts, apart from the golfing facilities, which include a chipping and a putting green, a golfers’ terrace and a driving range with an island green. The par-36 golf course extends over 60 acres of land, comprising three par-3s, three par-4s and three par-5s. When playing the second round, the tee-boxes are placed in different positions -or, provide different yard – age all round. Golf lessons are readily available!

The experience at Darul Ehsan can prove quite worth while. The pleasant atmosphere of a country club has been created and blended with a well-crafted golf course, which can be compared with the best in the country. There are plans to include nine more holes in the near future.

Royal Kampong Kuantan Golf Club

Visitors to the Royal Kampung Kuantan Golf Club will immediately recognise Malaysia’s rich colonial past, which is very much in evidence in the1920s clubhouse. It features huge iron girders supporting the building, while the airy, spacious verandahs provide a good spot for onlookers to view events on the course.

The original ‘Kampung Kuantan’ club was founded in 1910 by planters of the estates in Kuala Selangor District to provide a convenient place to meet. As the name implies, the club was first situated in Kampung Kuantan village before it moved on to Bukit Rotan. The new location offered acres of space and a par-68, (2,392 m) golf course was thus built for its growing number of members, many of whom were from outside Kuala Selangor district. Drains are a common feature throughout the golf course, but this does not pose any problem to seasoned golfers.

Port Klang Golf Resort

Carey Island Golf Club

Once well known for its crabs and other seafood delicacies, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, amid quiet and serene surroundings, is Carey Island, the perfect golfing getaway.

The nine-hole Carey Island Golf Course is about two- metres below sea-level, and during high tide the water level reaches the brim of the bunds.

Visitors to the golf course can stay at the beautiful Hatters Castle, a guest house which has played host to none other than the redoubtable British Prime Minister Mrs. Margaret Thatcher.

Carey Island with a population of about five thousand people is located on the west coast of Selangor, and covers some 110 square miles.

The Serendah Golf Links

The Serendah Golf Links, situated just 38 km north of Kuala Lumpur in the quiet town of Serendah, along the main trunk road between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh, is the latest golf resort to sprout in the country.

The current 40 minute drive from K. L. to Serendah will be halved with the completion of the North-South Highway in 1992. A railcar Express service from K. L with a special halt near the resort is also planned.

The par-72, 18-hole golf course, was constructed on 167 acres of former mining land and designed by international consultant Max Wexler.

Developed over a wide expanse of lush greenery, the layout provides a series of challenges, enough to baffle professionals, while allowing amateurs to enjoy a good, casual round of golf.

Golfers will have to watch out for common traps and hazards like water and bunkers. The undulating greens are carpeted with hybrid Bermuda, the tee-boxes with common Bermuda, while the fairways are grown with cow grass.

When completed, the result will show a striking resemblance to a modern city skyline, with retreat bungalows, service apartments, condominiums and hotels.

The other facilities available include a driving range, a health and fitness club, video games and a snooker centre, a swimming pool, a pro shop and a family club.

Sri Morib Golf Club

Morib is where many weekend visitors head for rest and a relaxing stay by the beach front. There are historical sights to attract travellers and for the golfer there is the outstanding par-72, (2,987 m) Sri Morib Golf Course.

The club is within walking distance from the beach, a popular resort for local and foreign visitors.

A detention camp used to stand on the site of the Golf Club. This was later converted to a youth camp, before the nine-hole course was developed and declared open by His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Selangor on 17 March, 1977. The Sri Morib Golf Club offers facilities like a swimming pool squash and tennis courts and a gymnasium.

Most of the greens are fast and elevated because of the proximity of the sea. Due to the tightness of the fairways, many golfers find the course difficult to conquer. Caddies are easily available from the nearby kampongs.

Visitors can stay at the Sri Morib Hotel which is situated just in front of the golf course itself. The club also offers package holidays to visitors who bring their families for a weekend visit.

Kuala Kubu Baru Golf and Country Club

The beautiful Kuala Kubu Baru Golf & Country Club at the foothills of the cool mountain resort of Fraser’s Hill is perfect for those wishing to stop off on their way to the mountain resort.

Situated north of Kuala Lumpur, approximately 136 km from Ipoh, the Kuala Kubu Baru Golf and Country Club in Selangor offers a nine-hole undulating golf course, with three par-3s, four par-4s and two par-5s.

Its naturally undulating fairways, carved out from a former rubber plantation, are turfed with common cow grass. The greens stand out as inspiring targets, emphasized by the white sand of the bunkers.

Interestingly, clubhouse and course are linked by a foot-bridge to the first hole.

The club offers four types of membership. It has ordinary, outstation, corporate and life members.

Ordinary membership is only for residents of Hulu Selangor, Rawang and Tanjung Malim. All Malaysians are eligible to apply for outstation membership. Associate service members who are police and army personnel are usually exempted from paying the entrance fee, except for monthly subscriptions.
