Kedah known as the ‘Rice Bowl of Malaysia’, produces some 44 percent of the nations rice, which happens to be the staple diet of Malaysians.

Pulau Langkawi, the island of legends exudes a mystic charm and is perhaps the state’s best-known tourist spot.

Pulau Langkawi, the ‘Light of the Kingdom’ its history lost in the mists of time, has always had a mystical reputation. The Langkawi group of islands is part of the state of Kedah. You can get to this beautiful island resort by sea or by a combination of rail, road and sea. Various ferry services ply between the island and Kuala. Perlis, and Pelangi Air Charter operates daily flights to Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

Langkawi has 82 kms of tarred road, on foundations of marble. This is probably one of only ten places on earth with marble road construction. At its unspoilt beach stands the Langkawi Golf Club which boasts an 18-hole golf course, an additional bonus to the many historic values and legends which attract thousands of tourists to the island.

The Langkawi golf course has undergone a lot of changes since its creation and was upgraded from a nine-hole to an 18-hole layout in 1989. The course has its fair share of challenging and easy holes for players to enjoy a pleasant round of golf.

Unlike the island, there is nothing mystical about the golf course.

Sungai Petani Golf Club

The Sungai Petani Golf Club in Kedah is one of the oldest clubs in the country. The nine-hole par-35 golf course layout offers an enjoyable round of social golf.

Its genuine country club atmosphere is enough to make any visitor feel at home.

The Sungai Petani Golf Club covers 6.5 acres of land. It has four tennis courts (two clay and two bitumen), and facilities for billiard, a card room, a bar and a recreation room.

Harvard Golf & Country Club

Harvard Golf & Country Club course in Bedong, Kedah may not be a golfer’s dream course, but the nine-hole golf course layout has enough hazards and challenges to give the social golfer an enjoyable round.

The golf course is an average par-36 layout, almost flat, with reasonably wide fairways, two ponds and 17 bunkers are distributed over the course.

Stopping by at the Harvard for a round is a pleasant experience, and caddies come cheap!

Dublin Estate Golf Club

The Dublin Estate Club in Karangan, Kedah, is a small and friendly countryside club. It has remained exclusively private to this day, ever since its beginnings in pre-war times.

The par-36, nine-hole golf course is squeezed onto 50 acres of land, which makes the course very tight.

Though the clubhouse and the golf course may have seen changes, its privacy is still closely guarded.

Royal Kedah Golf Club

Peninsular Malaysia’s first centre of civilization began at the foothills of the majestic Kedah Peak, which at 3,944 feet is the highest point in the northwest of the peninsula.

Leaving Kedah Peak, a new highway leads to the state capital of Alor Setar, where the Royal Kedah Golf Club is situated.

The nine-hole par-36 Royal Kedah golf course was originally built around a gymkhana race track, but through constant renovations to the course most of its history has been erased.

What we see today is a fairly flat layout for golfers to enjoy a pleasant round of golf. And for those who like to visit Kedah, the state has two distinct annual climatic changes – a dry period between December and May and rainy season from July to October.

With a tantalising name like Cinta Sayang, it is hard for golfers to resists its charms. Built on 190 acres of undulating land, the 18-hole international class golf course at Sungai Petani provides a formidable challenge.

Cinta Sayang Golf & Country Club, the par-72, (6, 886 yard) layout has an abundance of water hazards. Apart from that, there are strategically – placed bunkers, tricky greens and undulating fairways. Cross winds also prevail at some holes.
