The Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Club, perched on a commanding ridge is a sight in itself. At 3,100 feet above sea level, 10`C cooler than Kuala Lumpur, with all the pluses of an ideal highland retreat.
While baccarat, blackjack, keno, roulette and other games of chance flourish within the Genting Highlands resort, others play a different game of chance and survival at the golf course, just a 15 minutes drive below the famed casino.
Covering an expanse of some 110 acres, the (6,155 meter) par-71 layout is interesting, with a great deal of variety. Fifty-seven bunkers and several ponds and lakes are scattered throughout the undulating area, which puts fitness to a test.
All green sites are built with Bencross creeping Bentgrass and each has a character and playability of its own. A wide range of playing length has also been provided with numerous teeing positions.
The most dramatic would be the par-3, fourth. It offers five different teeing positions, which are 18 meters apart. The pond fronting the green will punish weak hitters and the canyon will penalize the strong.
Apart from the golf course, Awana also provides racquet games, heated swimming pools, gymnasiums, saunas and horse riding, in addition to its driving range and pro-shop facilities.
Forming part of the Awana Complex are 320 units of luxury condotel, each facing the golf course, which gives them a splendid view of the picturesque course.
